Joel has made a name for himself in Ontario as a tireless reporter with a versatile ability to tell all kinds of stories, regardless of the subject matter. 

When it comes to investigative reporting, Joel stops at nothing to get to the bottom of a story and his work has affected change within the municipalities he's worked, creating both staff and procedural shifts. 

Arguably, his greatest strength is putting together a story that you just can't put down. With roots in fiction writing, Joel is able to bring the stories of those he interviews completely to life. His piece on an Oshawa man who was wrongfully accused of killing his father won him Reporter of the Year honours at the Ontario Community Newspaper Awards in 2015, and his saga on a former local councillor who kidnapped the city's lawyer at gunpoint, leading to a 27-hour standoff with police, was labelled the Best Feature in the province by the OCNAs in 2016. 

Joel got his start working a short stint at the New Hamburg Independent, a newspaper serving a small town outside of Kitchener, Ontario. From there, he took a job with the Athabasca Advocate in northern Alberta covering municipal politics in a town that was smaller than his former high school. 

During his time there, his investigation into councillors wrongfully claiming money for meetings they didn't attend led to the firing of the council's chief administrative officer and a new policy of how councillors handle their pay. 

In 2014, Joel returned to his home province to take a job with The Oshawa Express, a weekly newspaper with a circulation of around 35,000. Originally hired as the newspaper's city hall reporter, Joel quickly took on extra rolls in covering community events and sports, including the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In his first year covering the team, Joel created a series of articles interviewing the players on the team who had been drafted by NHL clubs. This NHL approved series included sit downs with Michael McCarron (Montreal Canadians), Tobias Lindberg (Toronto Maple Leafs), Cole Cassels (Vancouver Canucks) and Josh Brown (Florida Panthers). During that season, Joel travelled to Quebec City to cover the Generals as they competed for the Memorial Cup, a trophy they would end up hoisting as Joel was there to snap the picture that would later appear on the newspaper's front page. His skills with a camera saw his pictures routinely used as the eye-catching image on the newspaper's weekly edition, and Joel has also published images in other nation-wide magazines. 

Following three years as a reporter, Joel took over as editor of the newspaper and worked to coordinate all the stories, content, pictures and design of the weekly newspaper. 

After a year in the editor's chair, Joel was recruited to start an entirely new media organization in Brampton, Ontario. He currently spends his days writing and investigating for The Pointer - Brampton, a company of which he is a part owner. 

This website is intended to act as a one-stop shop for everything Joel works on, while also providing an outlet for him to write about those things that work and fiction don't generally allow him to, including personal journals, news topics, along with his interest in travel and lifestyle. 

In October of 2017, Joel moved to Toronto with his girlfriend, where they rent a small apartment in downtown, spending nights curled on their massive leather couch and watching reruns of The Office. 

He also loves Stephen King, dogs, and an uninterrupted morning of writing with a full pot of coffee.
