The destruction of history
"If these walls could talk, the words would be shaking with fear."
At first, it was a good news story. A developer, moving forward with a new subdivision, was providing a monetary donation to the city in order to compensate for the need to tear down one of Oshawa's most historic homes.
However, when one looked a little deeper, a consultants report from several years prior pointed to the fact that the house could have been moved and preserved, but at a price. It turns out that price tag was considerably more than what the developer was providing as a "donation".
It was an unfortunate example of how history can be so easily forgotten in the wake of new development.
