“The more I learn about human trafficking, the angrier I get,” Ford, who has four daughters, said. The vast majority of human trafficking victims are female under the age of 26. The average age of recruitment into the sex industry is just 13-years-old.

“These are our kids and it’s our responsibility to make sure we always protect them and we must put an end to this disgusting, absolutely disgusting, industry,” Ford said.

The province of Ontario will provide $20 million annually to organizations across the GTA offering support to survivors of human trafficking.

Not only will the influx of funds help create new programs to help women and men who have been victims of sex trafficking, it will also allow for the creation of much needed, long-term supports.
